Case Summary:

This settlement resolves an employment class action against VIPKids International, Inc., which does business as VIPKid. The complaint alleged that teachers were willfully misclassified as independent contractors, that they were not paid proper minimum wages and overtime, did not get proper meal and rest breaks, were not given itemized wage statements, and so on.

A previous settlement of this case was announced, but since then, the Notice says, “VIPKid’s business has experienced unexpected and severe financial difficulties due to regulatory changes in China that have disallowed the type of ESL tutoring that was VIPKid’s primary offering.” Because its future is uncertain, the terms of the settlement have been revised.
