Case Summary:

Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC) has signed a Consent Order after an investigation by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. The two agencies were investigating allegations that TMCC violated the Equal Credit Opportunity Act by charging higher interest rates to African-American, Asian, and Pacific Islander car buyers than they did to non-Hispanic White buyers. TMCC will pay up to $21.9 million to repay buyers and will change its pricing and compensation systems to reduce incentive and discretion to mark up interest rates.
