Case Summary:The defendants involved in settling these class actions include two Takata companies (Takata Corporation and TK Holdings, Inc.) and several Volkswagen and Audi companies (Volkswagen AG, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., VW Credit, Inc., Audi AG, and Audi of America, LLC). The class actions centered on certain airbag products that Takata had supplied to various automakers. According to the complaint, the airbags were defective and, when deployed, they could rupture and eject debris and shrapnel into the vehicle’s passenger compartment. This settlement does not involve claims for injury or property damage.

Proof of Purchase:You must provide your vehicle’s VIN number. You may be able to submit claims without documentation, or you may be asked to provide documentation.
Eligibility:You may be eligible if you are one of the following:
- A person or entity who owned or leased one of the subject vehicles offered for sale or lease in the US or any of its territories or possessions, as of November 10, 2021.
- A person or entity who formerly owned or leased one of the subject vehicles in the US or any of its territories or possessions, and who sold the vehicle or returned it under the lease between February 10, 2016 and November 10, 2021.
The deadline for submitting Registration/Claim Form for the first group is one year after this Settlement becomes final or one year after the Recall Remedy is performed on your vehicle, whichever is later, until the final Registration/Claim deadline is reached.
The deadline for submitting a Registration/Claim Form for the second group is one year after this Settlement becomes final.
Typical Settlement Amount:Four benefits: (1) Enhanced Rental/Car Loaner Program for recall repairs; (2) Out-of-Pocket Claims Process; (3) Customer Support Program; (4) Residual distribution of remaining funds.
To be eligible, you must have either (a) brought your vehicle in to a Volkswagen or Audi dealership for a Takata Airbag Recall Remedy, or (b) sold or returned your vehicle between February 10, 2016 and November 10, 2021.
You must also either (a) register and submit your claim for reimbursement of reasonable expenses you incurred related to the Takata airbag recall, or (b) register to potentially receive up to $500 from the Settlement Fund.
Note that some vehicles not recalled at this time may be recalled at a later date. Also, receiving a settlement Notice does not necessarily mean your vehicle is subject to recall. See the websites for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Volkswagen, and Audi to determine if your vehicle is subject to a recall.
