Case Summary:

Nearly $4 million will go to pay people who had Extended Services Plans (also known as Protection Plans) with Staples for the servicing of computers, laptops, netbooks, tablets, digital readers, printers, shredders, digital cameras, and other electronic devices. The class action alleged that Staples did not adequately disclose that the protection plans required consumers to use manufacturer’s warranty coverage before coverage under the Protection Plans. In other words, the lawsuit claimed that customers overpaid for plans that overlapped with manufacturers’ warranties.
