Case Summary:Fiat Chrysler and Bosch are settling a multi-district consolidated lawsuit that claims the companies installed auxiliary Emissions Control Devices (AECDs) in 2014-2016 Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles with 3.0 liter V6 diesel engines. In addition to class actions filed by individuals, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed suit on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the state of California filed suit through its Attorney General. The suits alleged that the devices allowed excess emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), including more pollutants than consumers expected and more than permitted by clean air laws.
The Settlement includes (1) a Class Action Agreement between the companies and the owners or lessees of certain vehicles and (2) a Consent Decree between Fiat Chrysler and the DOJ on behalf of the EPA and the state of California through the California Attorney General and the California Air Resources Board.
