UPDATE: Three additional companies have settled in this case, including (i) Koninklijke Philips N.V., Lite-On IT Corporation, Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions Corporation, Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions U.S.A., Inc.; (ii) Pioneer Corporation, Pioneer North America, Inc., Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., and Pioneer High Fidelity Taiwan Co., Ltd.; (iii) TEAC America, Inc.; TEAC Corporation. The settlement fund is now higher and the claims deadline has been moved to August 1, 2017.  

The plaintiffs in this lawsuit allege that certain companies engaged in a conspiracy to raise, fix, maintain, or stabilize the price of Optical Disk Drives (ODD) at artificially high levels in violation of federal and state antitrust laws.  These companies include Panasonic Corporation, NEC Corporation, Sony Corporation, and Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Inc.  Products affected include new computers with an ODD, stand-alone ODDs designed for internal use in computers, and ODDs designed to be attached externally.  ODD refers to a DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, or combo drive.

Typical Settlement Amount:

Payments will not be made until the District Court gives final approval to the settlement. Because there are still other defendants, the plaintiffs are proposing that distribution of the settlement funds not occur at this time.
