Eligibility:You may be eligible if you are a member of any of the three classes below:
- Rule 23 Damages Class: All persons who, while signed to a Minor League Uniform Player Contract, participated in the California League for at least seven days between February 7, 2010 and August 26, 2022, participated in spring training, instructional leagues, or extended spring training in Florida between February 7, 2009 and August 26, 2022, or participated in spring training, instructional leagues, or extended spring training in Arizona between February 7, 2011 and August 26, 2022. Participation in these activities must have occurred before the person signed a Major League Uniform Player Contract.
- Rule 23(b)(2) Injunctive Relief Class: Any person who is or will be signed to a Minor League Uniform Player Contract and who participates in spring training extended spring training, the championship season, or instructional leagues in Florida or Arizona.
- FLSA Collective: All persons who, while signed to a Minor League Uniform Player Contract, participated in the California League, or in spring training, extended spring training, or instructional leagues on or after February 7, 2011, who had not signed a Major League Uniform Player Contract before then, and who previously filed a timely consent (opt-in) to join the case.
Benefits:
- Proportional share of the net settlement fund, based on the estimates of the number of hours you participated in minor league baseball. Eligible work periods include: (1) spring training, extended spring training, and instructional league periods from 2009-2022 in Florida or 2011-2022 in Arizona; (2) the California League from 2010-2022; and (3) championship seasons outside the California League, from the start of the statute of limitations for the state in which the class member’s minor league team is located to 2022.
- PAGA payment for members who participated in the California League between January 30, 2013 and August 26, 2022 for seven consecutive days.
- Changes for current and future players: MLB will rescind the part of the contract that prevents MLB clubs from paying wages to players outside the championship season. Notices will be sent to MLB clubs, telling them of this change and also that they must compensate minor league players on compliance with wage-and-hour laws in Arizona and Florida during spring training, extended spring training, instructional leagues, and the championship season in those states.
