Case Summary:

This settlement resolves at least eleven cases about two sewage disposal system event that occurred on August 11, 2014 and August 28, 2017, against the County of Oakland and its water commissioner. The events occurred in areas of the cities of Berkley, Clawson, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Madison Heights, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak, and Troy.

Eligibility:

You may be eligible if you are a person listed in Exhibit 1 of the Settlement Agreement or otherwise disclosed during the 2014 Actions, the Hanover Cases, or the 2017 Action who claims that a written Notice of Claim regarding the August 11, 2014 or August 28, 2017 sewage disposal system event was served on the City of Berkley.

Typical Settlement Amount:

Share of the net settlement fund. Final amounts will depend in part on the total amount claimed, for damage to real property and personal property, and for out-of-pocket costs for dealing with the damage. The settlement also includes $1.5 million to be spent on improvement measures to the sewage system.
