Eligibility:You may be eligible if you belong to one of the following three groups:
- Detained on ICE holds: You had an ICE hold and you were detained at a Los Angeles County jail after your criminal case was fully resolved (for example, after a judge said for you to be released or after you had served your time), between October 19, 2010 and June 14, 2014. You are not eligible if you had a prior removal (deportation) order or who were already in removal proceedings when ICE placed the hold.
- Booking Arrestees Who Should Have Been Released Due to Low Bail: You had an ICE hold and you were jailed, between October 19, 2010 and June 14, 2014, even though the total amount of your bail was less than $25,000. Some exceptions apply.
- Refusing to Accept Bail: The Sheriff’s Department refused to allow you to post bail, between October 19, 2010 and June 14, 2014, because you had an ICE hold.
Detention: Up to $1,000 per day spent detained solely on an immigrant detainer, up to a maximum of $25,000. Refusal of bail: $250 (applies only those who were arrested and incarcerated before October 19, 2012 and who would otherwise have been eligible to post bail. Final amounts depend on how many valid claims are received.
