Case Summary:Equifax experienced a data breach in 2017, which was the subject of a nationwide lawsuit. Indiana did not participate in the multistate settlement that resulted. The Office of the Indiana Attorney General filed its own lawsuit on behalf of those affected by the data breach who were citizens of Indiana, alleging that Equifax had failed to protect their data, made misrepresentations, and engaged in deceptive acts afterwards. This settlement resolves that lawsuit with a payment from Equifax of nearly $20 million.
