The City of Hannibal and the Hannibal Board of Public Works have agreed to a settlement in a class action brought against them and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The two defendants have committed to a minimum of $5 million to improve water quality in the city, with a focus on reducing or replacing chloramination as a primary method of disinfecting water. To receive a payment as part of the Medical-Monitoring Class, you must provide evidence of the blood or urine cytology tests for which you want reimbursement.

Eligibility:

Two classes have been certified for this action. The Rate-Payer Class is all current residents of Missouri who paid for water provided by the Hannibal, Missouri public water supply system, between September 1, 2011 and February 28, 2016. No payments are being made to this class. The Medical-Monitoring Class is all current residents of Missouri who lived in Hannibal for a minimum of three years between September 2011 and February 2016 and drank or bathed in water provided by the city’s public water supply system.

Typical Settlement Amount:

No payments will be made to the Rate-Payer Class. The Medical Monitoring Class will receive reimbursements for blood or urine cytology tests, minus any amounts paid by insurance or other parties. The $205,000 will be distributed to the Medical-Monitoring Class on a pro-rata basis, depending on how many valid claims are received.
