Case Summary:Chase Bank USA is putting up $11.5 million to settle a class action alleging that it did not update its reports to credit agencies when accounts sold to debt buyers were discharged in Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings. Eligibility:You may be eligible if
- You were an individual who had a credit card account with Chase Bank USA,
- Chase charged off and sold your account to a debt buyer on or after January 1, 2008, and
- After this sale, you discharged the debt in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy by April 4, 2018.
Three kinds of payments may be made: (1) Distribution claims, for those whose credit reports did not reflect the discharge of their debt, (2) Reimbursement claims, for those who made post-discharge payments to third parties, and (3) Reimbursement claims, for those who made post-discharge payments to Chase. Class members who want either or both of the first two kinds of payments must file claim forms. No claim form is necessary for the third kind of payment.
Typical Settlement Amount:Reimbursement claims for payments to Chase or third parties: You are entitled to a refund of up to the full amount you paid, depending on the number of valid claims. Distribution claims: You will receive a pro-rata share of the net settlement fund after reimbursement claims have been paid, estimated at between $10 and $250.
