Case Summary:

CertainTeed has reached a settlement in a class action that alleges that its fiber cement siding is defective and has failed to perform as promised.  The siding in question is CertainTeed WeatherboardsTM Fiber Cement Siding, Lap Siding, Vertical Siding, Shapes, Soffit, Porch Ceiling, and 7/16” Trim.  The plaintiff claims that when CertainTeed sold its siding, it promised that the siding would be “free from manufacturing defects for a 50-year period.”  The plaintiff alleges that despite this claim, the siding fails prematurely, causing crazing, warping, bowing, discoloration, shrinkage, and excessive gapping, causing damage to underlying structures.
