Case Summary:

CenturyLink is paying more than $15 million to resolve a group of class actions alleging it engaged in unfair and deceptive billing practices, overcharging residential or small business customers. Some of the practices alleged in the complaints included promising customers one rate while selling to them, then billing them at a higher rate; billing for unauthorized or undisclosed items, such as services or equipment the customer did not order; and causing customers to pay excessive fees at termination.

Eligibility:

You may be eligible if you are a person or entity in the US whom CenturyLink considers a residential or small business customer, and who had an account for local or long distance telephone, Internet, or television services, between January 1, 2014 and January 24, 2020, with one of the CenturyLink Operating companies.

Typical Settlement Amount:

Two options: (1) Flat payment claim: estimated at $30, subject to a pro rata multiplier. (2) Supported document claim: claim for a different sum, also subject to pro rata multiplier, payable at 40% of amount claimed. For example, a claim for $100 could receive up to $40. This option requires documentation of the amount claimed, for up to six months of overcharges. Final amounts for both options depend on the number of valid claims received.
