Ambry Genetics Corporation is paying more than $12 million to resolve class actions alleging that it failed to take adequate measures to protect the personal information it maintained in its systems. Ambry announced a data breach on or around April 15, 2020. The complaint(s) alleged that an unauthorized party potentially gained access to names, dates of birth, and health and medical information, and for some persons, Social Security numbers, diagnoses, and other personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI).

If you are a California or Illinois citizen or resident and are not shown as such on the Settlement Class List, you may also provide reasonable documentation showing your residency or citizenship at some time between January 22, 2017 and October 5, 2022.


You may be eligible if you are one of the approximately 225,370 patients identified on the Settlement Class list whose PII and PHI were allegedly contained in an employee’s compromised email account in the data breach. If you received a postcard Notice of the settlement, you are likely a class member.

You may also be a member of the California or Illinois Subclasses if you were shown as a citizen or resident of those states on the Settlement Class List.

Typical Settlement Amount:

- Credit monitoring and identity theft insurance services. Up to one year, provided by Pango Group.
- Cash payment for lost time. Up to ten hours of time spent dealing with the data breach, at $30/hour.
- Cash payment for out-of-pocket costs. Up to $10,000 for expenditures or unreimbursed losses fairly traceable to the data breach and incurred on or after January 22, 2020.
- Cash payment to members of the California or Illinois Subclasses.
