Closed Settlement Statement:

According to court documents, the claim submission deadline has passed. Please contact the claims administrator if you have any questions.

Case Summary:

This settlement resolves a class action alleging that ADT failed to tell customers that its residential security systems using wireless peripheral sensors were vulnerable, because the wireless sensors could be evaded or jammed using electronic devices.

Docket Number:

16-cv-02233-JST

Company: ADT, Inc.

Filing Deadline: February 26, 2018

Class Period: November 13, 2009 to August 15, 2016

Objection Deadline: January 2, 2018

Exclusion Deadline: January 2, 2018

Final Approval Hearing: February 1, 2018

Proof of Purchase:

No

Eligibility:

You may be eligible if you first entered into a contract with ADT or an ADT dealer between November 13, 2009 and August 15, 2016 for a residential security system that included at least one wireless peripheral sensor.

Class members are divided into two groups, those who contracted with ADT on or before July 23, 2014 and those who contracted with ADT after that date. This is because information on the alleged vulnerability of the wireless sensors was brought to the attention of ACT by an employee on that date.  Members of the second group will receive a higher payment than those in the first group.

Note that you must have initiated your first ADT contract during the class period; renewals are not included, nor are those whose accounts were acquired by ADT from other companies.

Typical Settlement Amount:

First installation between November 13, 2009 and July 23, 2014: estimated at $15. First installation between July 24, 2014 and August 15, 2016: estimated at $45. Final amount may vary depending on the number of valid claims received.

Total Settlement Amount: $16,000,000

Class Representative Proposed Incentive Fee:

$10,000
