Mophie Battery iPhone Case Class Action Lawsuit

This lawsuit claims that the Mophie iPhone 6 Juice Pack Plus for the iPhone 6/6s is advertised as extending the battery life of iPhones, when in fact it damages the internal battery of the phone, significantly reducing its battery life and impacting the usability of the device without Mophie product attached.

One plaintiff in this case, Eric Stotz, is a resident of Los Angeles, California.  On February 6, 2016, Stotz purchased the product from a “Tech On the Go” store inside LAX Terminal #1 for over $100.00.  Stotz purchased the product because he needed a longer battery life while travelling, and Mophie advertised that their product could extend his battery life.  After having used the Mophie product, Stotz realized that it significantly damaged his phone’s battery, rendering it almost unusable without the product constantly attached.

Consumers purchase products such as the Mophie iPhone 6 Juice Pack Plus because they need an increased phone battery life for a variety of reasons.  Mophie profits from the sale of these products, which they advertise as increasing the battery life of products.  Once a phone’s battery is damaged, the owner become even more reliant upon extended battery packs, such as Mophie’s products, to use his or her phone.  This gives Mophie the potential of earning even more profit.

Based on the facts of the case, the plaintiffs in this class action lawsuit allege that Mophie violated the California False Advertising Act, the Unfair Business Practices Act, and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act by falsely advertising their product as capable of extending the battery life of iPhones.
