Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition “Natural” Supplements Class Action

Consumers these days prefer natural products—and are willing to pay more for them. Windmill Health Products markets its Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition supplements as being “natural,” but the complaint for this class action alleges that certain of the products actually contain non-natural synthetic ingredients. The complaint claims that the products violate consumer protection laws in all fifty states and represent breaches of warranties.

The Nationwide Class for this action is all persons who bought the products in the US during the applicable statute of limitations. A New York Subclass has also been proposed for those who brought the products in the state of New York. The products include the following:

  • Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Mighty Mushrooms
  • Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Bountiful Beets Drink Mix Supplement
  • Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Bountiful Beets Capsules
  • Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Super Fruit & Veggies
  • Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Sprouts & Seeds

In its early pages, the complaint reproduces images of the supplements.

Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Mighty Mushrooms is labeled as a dietary supplement promising “Natural Immune System Support.” Additional notations on the front of the package promise other qualities believed to be healthy: “100% Organic Mushrooms,” “Non GMO,” “Gluten Free,” and “100% Vegan.”

However, according to the complaint, the mushroom supplement contains the synthetic ingredient organic tapioca maltodextrin. Federal regulations count maltodextrin as a synthetic.

On the front of the Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Bountiful Beets Drink Mix Supplement, after the word “Beets” are the words “Natural Wholefood Beet Extract.”

However, the complaint claims that the drink mix contains maltodextrin, citric acid, and silica. Citric acid is no longer extracted from citrus fruits. The complaint claims it is “industrially manufactured by fermenting certain genetically mutant strains of [a] black mold fungus…” Silica is an anticaking agent.

Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Bountiful Beets Capsules also displays the words “Natural Wholefood Beet Extract” on its front label.

The complaint alleges that the capsules contain gelatin, stearic acid, and silica. Gelatin and stearic acid are both also synthetic ingredients; commercial stearic acid contains glyceryl monostearate, glyceryl monopalmitate, and glyceryl esters of fatty acids.

The front of the box for Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Super Fruit & Veggies supplement shows the words “Natural Fruit & Vegetable Formula.”

This product, the complaint alleges, contains stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and silica. Magnesium stearate is the magnesium salt of stearic acid.

Finally, Country Farms Farm Fresh Nutrition Sprouts & Seeds touts its “Natural Seed and Fiber Blend” and “Natural Flax, Hemp, Pumpkin, Sesame, Chia and Sunflower” composition.

But the complaint claims it contains silica.
